Sabine’s Recommended Hikes

Beginner Hike: Martis Creek Trail

4 mile loop, 1-2 hours

Located right down 267 towards Northstar, this is an easy hike for all ages. It is a 4 mile loop, but you can choose to walk a shorter distance in and come back. The trail is well marked and takes you through a nice meadow and through some forest.

Getting There: Take a left out of our parking lot. After the first stop light you will see a turn out for parking on the right-hand side along with a sign directing you to the trail.

Intermediate Hike: Picnic Rock

3 miles round trip, 2-3 hours

This hike takes you up towards the top of Brockway Summit with beautiful filtered views of Lake Tahoe. The hike is uphill one way, but is not overly steep and partially shaded. Once you get to the top, you will have great, unfiltered views of Lake Tahoe and comfortable flat rocks to sit on to have a picnic lunch.

Getting There: Take 267 towards Kings Beach. After crossing over the summit you will see a turn out to park at on your right-hand side with an access road on the left. Park and walk up the access road until you see the entrance for the Tahoe Rim Trail. 1.2 miles up follow the sign on the tree for the lake view picnic area.

Advanced Hike: Castle Peak

5.8 miles one way, Full day

This hike on Donner Summit takes you up a hard hike to the top of Castle Peak with views of the mountains around. Be prepared for a more strenuous hike as it can get steep and is a longer hike.

Getting There: Take the Castle Peak exit off of 80 and head up the dirt road on your right. Park in the parking area and head up the wide trail. There is lots of signage and it is well marked.
